roadtrip dreams

today i roughly drew where i wanted my road trip to go. Google Maps doesn't allow infinite destinations, so i have to split it up; south trip and north trip.

How long do you think this would take?! Also, any interesting points i should go on the way? AAAAND.. if I stop in your area, can I crash your couch?!

Ariel makes a new friend

ariel and I made a stop at the annual lobster fest a couple weeks ago and our nail beds stunk of lobster for nearly 2 days. It was all worth it tho, the lobster was quite tasty. Also, in hindsight if I went alone I wouldve been able to consume 2 lobsters instead of 1. Notes for next year.

You snooze lose

I get locked out of my apt more often than I'd like to admit. I should wear a key around my kneck as if I were ok kindergarten. Tho, when I was in kimdergarten I never had to worry about keys and such since our nanny was always there to greet us with a chocolate crepe. Man, I could go for a chocolate crepe right about now.

I Spammed Myself!

i got an email this morning for something called socal supper club. i dont recall signing up for them, but who knows... anyhoo their next event is at Tanzore. Part of their copy is:

SoCal Social Club once again visits Tanzore, but this time it's to experience what Metromix calls "a jewel of modern Indian cuisine."

yeah, i wrote that. and they didnt even credit me. the bastards.

phew

so just after a short 6 weeks at metromix, i was promoted as the full time photo editor, huzzah!

and with that, the time that i thought i would have more of was dashed away. fortunately though the work is challenging and fulfilling.

im just feeling exhausted lately. i recently just met up with many friends i havent seen a few weeks ago and it was so nice. i promised myself that i need to make more time for myself... i can never say no to any projects, argh..

this weekend has been crazy, shooting anime expo, 4th of july etc, and my mom is coming tomorrow to visit. i wonder if i will get my customary zits of stress...

going to try to lay down and bear the heat.

is that a playlist in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

they dont really clear out the files or histories of past computer users here at LA Times, and thus, i have the music library of a previous designer on my Mac Pro. is there anything sexier than a well crafted musical selection? i want to find this man named "Clint" and suck his face. He had the Donnas followed with Bebel Gilberto, followed by Outkast, followed by Leonard Cohen, followed by Imogen Heap. *swoon*

THIS IS THE SUMMER THAT WILL CHANGE OUR LIVES

one of my favorite quotes from [info]stcolapop.

but for once, it actually looks like its really is going to be shaping up to be the summer quite interesting.

ive been a bit hush hush about it for various reasons, but since i start today i might as well tell the interweb that i got a new job as the photo editor at Metromix. im not exactly sure how i fell into it but it truly is one of the more exciting turns of events that has happened in my life. we'll see how it pans out, im not trying to put all my eggs into one basket but it really does seem promising.

unfortunately, this also means that my time at KCET is now over. KCET has to be the best working environment i have ever had the pleasure of working in, hands down. ive learned a lot, and i think im fully prepared to work in any post environment if this metromix thing doesnt pan out.

i think now ill have a bit more regular hours, or at least, time to lj. my life in the last 9 months have been really hectic, swinging a day job and shooting events/restaurant/bars/etc at night. sometimes i wouldnt even see [info]gatsby11rel for days at a time! anyhoo, heres to hoping for a bit more free time...

oh, my car got broken into a month or so ago. my ipod was sitting out, yeah i know, im a idiot. lesson learned.

ive also amassed so many parking tickets that it should be able to fund the subway to the sea. its like all the parking tickets i shoulve received in my lifetime of not driving is piled up at once. fun!

i gave up the studio this month too, since ill have my own workspace at the la times building. sad to see it go, but it served its purpose. aka, kicking my ass in gear to do what i really want to do.

im working on a pizza article for metromix right now, specifically pizza on the east side. its an old vs new slant, with the contenders being nick d's/hard times vs andiamo/tomato pie. im excited to unveil the results, but its just not coming together as nice as i would like. keep your eyes peeled for it anyhoo. (tho i must admit that bollini's still takes top billing in my book.) it doesnt help that i havent really written a single word in MONTHS. as this journal entry can plainly illustrate, my writing skills have fallen to the level of a moderately stimulated 5th grader.

oh shit, im at the office now. ciao.

tyra and dr. phil are now my sworn enemies

the show im working on, A Place of Our Own, was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award this year. We are up against Tyra and Dr. Phil, in the informative talk show category. those shows have information?

in a fight between me, dr phil, and tyra, who would win?

Science and Pizza

Wired Science, the show I worked on previously was just BoingBoinged, yay! The segment they highlighted was about the Maker Faire, which the editor of BoingBoing is a part of.

Also, on my food travels for Metromix I tasted one of the best pizzas I've ever had in Monterey Park of all places. It's called Bollini's, and if you consider yourself a true pizza connoisseur then I highly recommend making a sojourn down the 60 to a little strip mall joint that has pies that will knock your socks off. I even had a resident New Yorker praise a slice, which is an amazing feat in itself.

The chef is a really affable guy, with awesome tats up both arms. In fact, when coming to do a photo shoot the staff were late as they all went on a tattoo outing together. Such brotherly love! The pizzeria is actually staffed by all his old neighborhood buddies, which is evident in their near perfect syncopation of kitchen operation.

The pizzas are thin crust style with fresh and tasty ingredients that really pop with flavor. The dough is crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside.

Anyhoo, here are some pics, enjoy!

saving spaces

I have been consciously training my typing patterns in withholding that extra space we were all taught to use between sentences from 2 to 1 space. Apparently I missed the memo, and have been using 2 spaces for my entire life. When did this shift occur? It has, and still does, blow my mind. Though, I do appreciate the added typing room afforded from the saved spaces. I mean, by now, I can now fit the word "four." Okay, now to save a few more spaces to spend on a more worthwhile word.

Long Time No Postey, again

For some reason, it has really taken me quite a while to work up the gumption to write a real post rather than just shameless self promotion. Yup, I've been busy taking photos around town for Metromix.com, but what else is going in the wonderful life of Shane?

Recap:

Wired Science has wrapped with 10 shows, and I think for a first season show we did pretty good. Anyone out there catch it? I'm a dork for science shows, so I kind of an easy target.

Started on a new show called A Place of Our Own. The show is somewhat of a tips and advice on raising your child in a healthy and positive environment. As far as what we're providing the community I think its awesome and amazing. There are far too many parents out there with their heads up their asses when it comes to raising their kids, I'm glad that there is at least one "guidebook" on television that shows a positive take on parenting. On the other hand, I would definitely be happier working on a show about Japanese Robots.

I've named my car Doris, after the evil bowler hat character in Meet the Robinsons. I even got a Doris antenna topper! Yes, Doris the Yaris is zipping by and I am totally enamored with her.

Unfortunately, I was recently towed, on my own street no less. Allegedly, i was parked with my bumper in someones driveway. I could've sworn I double checked, but whatever. When I got my car back, I realized that in their effort to break into my car, they effectively dented, scratched, and punctured areas around my door frame. I WAS INSANELY ANGRY. After what can be said a most effortless interchange with my insurance company (go Progressive!), I was able to get the towing company to admit full responsibility and pay 100% of the damages plus car rental fees. Insanity! Especially when the quote for the damages was +$1200!

My sisters BF was recently in a car accident with his best friend in the driver seat. He survived with injuries, but his friend was killed in the crash. She has been hit rather hard with the situation, and I'm not quite sure how to alleviate her stress and anguish, since she was also very good friends with the him. She organized a benefit concert with all the proceeds going to the family for funeral costs, etc. and I'm going to be shooting the event.

Aside from that, things have been alright. My social life has been nil, barely even getting enough time to say hello to my usual cadre of friends. I'm hooked on Facebook now, mainly due to Scrabble. If you're on Facebook, find me and lets play!

the apocolypse if coming...

up is down, left is right, hot is cold, and I, Shane Redsar, am now a driving citizen.  thats right, i learned how to drive and got myself a brand new Yaris.  this concept alone has caused many heads to explode in sheer disbelief.

i mean, not driving has become a defining element of who i am.  does this make me less Shane?

and i wonder how often i will take public transit now... if ever?  i have a bus pass for Nov still, and i dont mind getting the pass at a secret discount...

at any rate, be sure to keep your loved ones off the road, as i am now free to roam the asphalt wilderness at full speed!
